A) Complete the following sentences with there is / there are in the affirmative.

1. My name is Annie and I live in a very big house. There are twenty-three   rooms in my house, but there are only twelve bedrooms.

2. I live in one of the rooms on the third floor. In my room, there is a huge bed and there are nine windows.

3. My bedroom isn't small. On my bed, there are lots of pillows, and there is my cat, Fluffy.

4. In my closet, there are many toys, and there are also many clothes.

5. I don't have a bathroom in my bedroom, but there is a bathroom next to my room.

6. Also in my house, there are two kitchens, a big dining room, and three living rooms. The house is really big!

 B) Complete the following sentences with there isn’t / there aren’t.  Be careful with countable and uncountable nouns!

1. There isn't a flight from here to London.

    2. There aren't any movies that I want to see in the cinema.

    3. I'm very hungry, but there isn't any food in the refrigerator.

    4. We want to go to the concert, but there aren't any tickets.

    5. There isn't any money in my bank account, so I can't pay the bills.

    6. There aren't seventy minutes in an hour.

   7. In my neighborhood, there aren't any children.

   8. Henry can't bake a cake because there isn't any sugar in the cupboard.

   9. It's sunny today, and there isn't a cloud in the sky.

  10. I'm sorry, there aren't any letters for you today.

 

 C) Describe your neighborhood: What is there in your neighborhood? What doesn't exist?

In my neighborhood, there are no stores nearby. In my area, there is a university dormitory, and there is also a university called BICU. We have few neighbors because we are isolated, and behind my house in the same neighborhood, there are two bars. Almost across the street, around the corner, there is a karaoke bar. However, the few neighbors we have nearby are friendly."

D) Create sentences using there is / there are and the following words:

1. There is a key on the table.

2. There are two trees in my backyard.

3. There is music playing in the background.

4. There are several books on the shelf.

 5. There is a spill on the floor.

 6. There is some food in the fridge.

 7. There are sixty minutes in an hour.

10. There is coffee brewing in the kitchen.
